Wages may not be lower than the minimal monthly wage established by law. The amount of minimal monthly wage is subject to regular indexation. As at 1, January 2009 the federal statutory minimum wage is 4,330 roubles (appr. USD130) per month. The Subjects of the Federation can by their local laws increase the minimal monthly wage on their territories.

Salaries must be paid at least once every half month. An employer is obliged to pay compensation (i.e. interest) for any delay in the payment of salary and other employment related payments. Employees are entitled to stop working, with prior written notice to their employer, if the employer delayed payment of their salary for more than 15 days.
